At SKONA, sustainable practices are part of our DNA. Our eyewear is manufactured using innovative 3D-printing technology. This additive manufacturing process results in 50-70% less waste than traditional manufacturing. SKONA Eyewear is made to last. Our material is more durable and needs to be replaced less often. Your SKONA frames will last you for several prescription changes. The extended lifespan has less environmental impact - by about 50% = our products are designed for longevity.

SUSTAINABLE BY DESIGN.
Sustainably means using as few parts as possible. There are no metal parts or screws in our eyewear.
Less is better.
Additive manufacturing means using less material which equals less waste. Our frames are produced by demand. We keep less inventory and only use what we need.
Overproduction results in considerable waste. More than 4 million pairs of glasses in North America are thrown away each year, which equates to about 250 metric tons of non-biodegradable waste.
Integral to our design philosophy is the reduction of unnecessary elements. As designers, we consider demo lenses unnecessary. It is estimated that 4000 pairs of glasses are produced annually resulting in the production of 4000 pairs of single-use plastic demo lenses. Demo lenses are later discarded or possibly recycled. There are new recycling programs that involve shipping demo lenses to dedicated facilities. Unfortunately, shipping the demo lenses adds to the carbon footprint. Demo lenses serve to help the consumer visualize the frame with lenses. At SKONA, we believe this has simply become an expectation but not really a necessity.

TIMELESS EYEWEAR
We don’t follow trends and neither do our customers. Fast fashion is the antonym of sustainability. SKONA Eyewear is designed to outlast trends. Timeless design means you will want to wear our frames for years to come.
