Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing is a process that creates 3-dimensional objects by adding layer by layer of product according to a digital design. This contrasts with traditional manufacturing that involves removal of material to create 3 dimensional objects. The 3D-printing process results in significantly less waste of material. You may already be familiar with home-based desktop 3D printers and have created your own 3D-printed products. While useful and enjoyable, these desktop printers do not compare to professional machines with industrial capacity and unmatched precision utilizing SLS technology.
At SKONA, we create our innovative eyewear using advanced 3D-printing technology. We only use the purest powder sourced from Germany. Professional machines add the powder layer by layer in a process known as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS). SLS a laser is used to melt and fuse the powder into the shape according to the digital design file. Each SKONA model has its own digital design file. Our eyewear is 3D printed in Poland in state-of-the-art facilities ensuring the highest standard of quality and cleanliness.
Once the eyewear is shaped according to the digital design, it is meticulously smoothed and polished to achieve a luxurious finish. The eyewear is finally placed in special dyes that give our eyewear its distinctive rich colour.
The result is lightweight, incredibly comfortable eyewear that is flexible and more durable than traditional eyewear.
