Sustainability isn’t just a buzz words for brands and aspiring entrepreneurs, it’s a responsibility that we all must share. At SKONA, the commitment to sustainability stems from a genuine belief that we can and should do better.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact. Corporations, big or small, have a responsibility to ensure that production results in a lower carbon footprint with significantly less waste.
Overproduction
The reality that part of the world takes on the waste of the other part is unacceptable. For years, this was the norm in the fashion industry. Greater awareness has led more and more people to consider reused or recycled clothing and accessories. We know that overproduction is a leading cause of waste and fashion ending up in landfills. Overproduction has been a significant cause for unnecessary waste. 3D printing allows us quicker turn-around time and we don’t need to stock large inventory. We only produce that what we need.
Quality over Quantity
Investing in a product is a meaningful decision. Eyewear collectors want to keep their eyewear for years to come and in the case of prescription eyewear for several prescription changes. Disposable fashion is the antonym of sustainability. It’s no surprise that larger companies discontinue their products more frequently while independent brands keep their iconic models a part of their collections for years and sometimes decades.
Durability is Integral
Products should be made to last. The concept of disposable fashion is outdated and irresponsible. Sustainability starts with good design. Timeless aesthetics that outlasts trends are at the core of our design belief.
People deserve eyewear that is comfortable and well made so you can enjoy beautiful eyewear for years to come.
Sustainability is a Journey
At SKONA, we recognize the need to continually reevaluate our environmental impact. There is always room for improvement. SKONA frames start as a powder derived from the purest powder from Germany. We are proud to say that the latest material now produces 45% less C02 emissions. A lower carbon footprint is an essential part of our manufacturing. We are continuing our efforts to find new ways to lower our carbon footprint as we strive towards a more sustainable future.
